The new Swiss passport is a reflection of Switzerland: traditional but cosmopolitan at the same time. Water shapes and forms the Swiss landscape, symbolising life and motion. The passport invites you on a virtual journey through the country’s 26 cantons, from the Alpine peaks down to the valleys. For the first time, a page is dedicated to ‘The Fifth Switzerland’; i.e. the community of Swiss nationals living abroad. The first page of the document depicts the Pizzo Rotondo, the highest mountain in the Gotthard massif. This is where the sources of Switzerland’s largest rivers lie. The new design thus combines the passport’s two main themes: mountains and water.
Swiss citizens have a passport and an identity card.
Travellers are advised to enquire at the appropriate embassy or consulate in Switzerland about the provisions for entering or transiting a country.
